Another second grade class built a
supermarket in class. Using the project to learn
about math, the students also studied recycling
issues. The class then designed a pamphlet to educate
their families and their community.

Third and fourth graders learned
about hunger and homelessness while growing a
vegetable garden at a senior center. Regular
visitations were made, during which the students and
the seniors worked on the plot. Part of the produce
went to the senior partner and the rest to the
homeless shelter.

Fifth grade students explored
topics such as animal habitats, soil, and recycling
in science class. To compliment this learning, they
spent a class day creating a conservation area in a
ravine, made trails, planted shrubs, and developed a
sledding area.

Eighth graders served as tutors
to elementary school students, improving their own
reading skills and lowering their drop-out rates.

An eighth grade industrial arts
class mass produced sets of large dominoes that were
given to local primary schools to help students with
their counting and other math skills.
